I suppose that if I were not in my current line of work, I might always be able to find some sort of useful employment in the field of archaeology. So much of the information that becomes pertinent to fighting demons and vampires comes from the most ancient of sources, considering the extreme longevity of so many of these beings. I can read and translate at least a half dozen ancient (human) languages, and am thoroughly familiar with identifying artifacts from a number of countries and civilisations and time periods.

Of course, not a single whit of that knowledge can prepare a person for meeting a true ancient. Such a happening is always intimidating. One can always feel the weight of hundreds or thousands of years surrounding the entity, and more often than not, the being is less than friendly to us mere mortals.

And when that ancient wears a friend's face?

You cannot be prepared. )
