Track 02 - "Say Goodbye to Hollywood", Billy Joel
If there was one thing that Wesley realised Angel Investigations did on an exceptionally rare basis, it was actual detective work. Despite the phrasing on the business cards, almost never did they play the traditional roles of investigators and detectives. Most of the time, either they sought out the supernatural threats or those adversaries found them first.
Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car
He joins the lovers in his heavy machine
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard
Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye, my baby
Mr. Kumet ran the liquor store on the same block as Wesley's apartment, and the two had shared more than one conversation about wine. When the man had called Wesley distraught and frantic, the tale he told sounded more than up AI's alley.
Angel had been the first to approach the car, but it turned out the precaution was unnecessary. Whatever had torn through the rented Mustang's roof was long gone, but it had left more than a little evidence of its passing. What was left of Mr. Kumet's son Robert and his girlfriend Brenda was splattered and smeared over the leather interior.
Johnny's takin' care of things for a while
And his style is so right for troubadours
They got him sitting with his back to the door
Now he won't be my fast gun anymore
Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye, my baby
It wasn't a long before they found Johnny. There weren't many demons in the city with the sheer size and power to tear through steel, and nearly all of them worked for just one or two of the organised supernatural crime groups. They started small, questioning an informant here and there. The trail led to a bar. The bartender pointed to the wide shouldered demon with the foot-long spikes poking through its suit jacket.
So many faces in and out of my life
Some will last
Some will just be now and then
Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes
I'm afraid it's time for goodbye again
Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye, my baby
When Angel and the others returned to Mr. Kumet's store, he took the bad news with a single nod. Mr. Kumet had known, he told them, that Bobby had been "in trouble" for some time, and while the older man had tried to help his son, there was nothing that he could do. He thanked Angel Investigations for their help and was grateful that, at least, they'd found the thing that had killed his son.
They went back to the Hyperion, where Angel reminded them that they had done what they could. Angel Investigations went back to work.

Say goodbye, my baby
