Networking ((RP phone convo for [livejournal.com profile] not_a_eunuch))

Wesley couldn't help but pay particular attention when Buffy expressed so much concern for Angel's... well, perhaps not his well-being, exactly, as there was no implication of the usual sort of danger. But she was certainly concerned for him and his situation. The whole span of the information Wesley's former charge had delivered was still daunting, but there were still only two or three facts required to move Wesley to action. Firstly, an old friend had done the asking. No matter what the history, Wesley respected Buffy and still harboured Watcherly regard for the Slayer. Secondly, the request had been made on behalf of a friend just as old, but a great deal more dear. Lastly, Wesley could help, or at least he believed he might be able, and so he had to.

Dialing the phone number Buffy had provided, Wesley sat at his desk in the Endeavour Agency offices and waited.

Angel could picture her as the maternal type before he saw her with Addie. Maybe that was because at one point in his life the idea of the married life with Buffy was his picture of Shanshu. He's long since given up on redemption. When he goes to work now it's simply to help. There was no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

There was a part of him that really wanted to bring Wes up to speed on the Cordelia situation. It's not his secret to share, but he couldn't help but feel that Wesley could figure this out. He was the guy who mastered the books after all. He'd have to put some more pressure on Cordy to make her situation known, at the very least, among the friends that considered her family. When asked about how his family was he paused for a moment. Things were complicated. Wasn't that the case with everyone these days? "Darla and Connor returned to Quortoth in exchange for Connor's other family to be given a second chance at life. They would have died by now from natural causes. It's hard to deal with some days, but having Kara and Addie to focus on helps. I'm tired some days, and worried others. Kara, my daughter, she's having some problems so she's resting up in a hospital. Darla leaving really did a number on her. I didn't expect to have grandchildren, but it helps to have family ties here. How are you? Buffy mentioned you were seeing Gwen."

Wesley had to clasp a hand over the mouthpiece, lest Angel hear him snicker. That was Angel, as he remembered the man-- reticent to a fault, but once he was spurred to speak, there was no stopping him. Idly, he wondered if some of Buffy's infamous ability to ramble had somehow rubbed off on Angel back in Sunnydale.

"I see," was his first response. To the best he could hear in the vampire's voice, Angel was not calling to hear platitudes and reassurances. Angel was doing well, and Wesley could help best by simply listening. "Family is amazingly important, Angel. It makes me feel a great deal better to know you have some around, even with the difficulties."

He did let a chuckle slip. "Yes, yes I am. That's not an issue, I trust?"
