December 2008 - Phone
"Hello, Mother? Yes, it's Wesley."
"I'm doing very well, thank you. How are you? Good, good. And Father? How is he enjoying his retirement?"
"I see. Well, I'm sure that if he's got his mind set on some sort of project around the house, then it was needed. I don't see Father as the type to simply putter about to keep busy."
"Oh, the whole garage? I hope he's not straining himself. No? Good, good. And you, are you surviving having him in residence full-time?"
"No, Mother, I didn't mean to imply anything negative. Father had a quite good visit out here, as I'm sure he told you. We've come to a pretty stable understanding, he and I. It was a happy surprise."
"Yes, I have to admit that, too. I never thought that things would go so smoothly. But I think that once he and I sat down and really spoke, that we were both able to see the right path. I'm confident that we're making the right decisions with the Slayers."
"I'm sorry?"
"Father mentioned a woman? Did he, now? Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I am seeing a young lady. Yes, Mother, she's a really wonderful girl-- very lively, exceptionally quick of wit. Yes, a colleague of mine. We met a few years ago, but only started dating recently after my stay in hospital."
"He called her 'pretty'? I see. Oh, I'm a bit biased, of course, so I'm not sure I can give you an objective answer. I think she's lovely."
"Yes, Mother, as a matter of fact, it is getting quite serious."
"No, no plans... no need for a ring or plane tickets."
"Yes, it could."
"Father's what? Oh, then I suppose you ought to go see what he's breaking now."
"I'll call again on Christmas, Mother. Love to you, my best to Father."
"Goodbye."
